Scotland's most hit bridge is no more after it is replaced

A bridge with “more hits than The Beatles” has finally been replaced and made taller.

The Bellside Bridge in Cleland was replaced over the weekend and it is hoped that this will no longer be the most hit bridge in Scotland.

The bridge will now no longer be marked as low and will have a minimum clearance of 5.234 metres.

The old bridge was removed on Saturday afternoon in an operation that took less than three minutes.

The new replacement was installed on Sunday.

One councillor has been campaigning for the height of the bridge to be changed for a number of years now.

Labour councillor Louise Roarty posted on Facebook: “After years of campaigning, the bridge at Bellside has finally been removed. “This is a huge victory for local people and will benefit the local community in the long term.

It is hoped the new bridge will mean there are less collisions (Facebook)

“We were told this couldn’t be done but persisted to find a solution and it took less than three minutes to remove.

“Excited to see the new bridge which will be completed over the coming days.

A chapter has been closed and Britain’s most struck bridge is no more.”
