Scotland’s mini-heatwave to end today as heavy rain and lightning forecast

Scotland’s spell of dry and sunny weather is expected to come to a dramatic end later today as forecasters anticipate thunderstorms to rock the country.

Sunbathers have been enjoying warm climates in recent days, with the thermometer peaking at 25C on Tuesday this week.

But it appears to be time to lookout your best waterproofs once again, as the Met Office has forecast heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning to hit the country from today.

Parts of southern Scotland are expected to be hit with heavy downpours during the late afternoon on Friday - with a risk of thunder.

Rainfall is also expected to batter the northeast of the country from around 10pm this evening.

Showers are anticipated to become more widespread throughout Saturday, with the south and central parts of the country seeing the worst of the conditions.

Temperatures will remain in the mid to late teens across most parts of the country, while thunder and rain is also expected on Sunday.

Rain is expected to continue in the south of the UK before travelling northwards through Tuesday.

Fresher conditions have been predicted for Tuesday, with winds anticipated to pick up then.

A yellow weather warning has been issued for much of England for thunderstorms tomorrow - with nothing in place for Scotland so far.

The forecast is a contrast to the conditions that Scots have enjoyed so far this week - with temperatures peaking to the same levels seen in Barcelona.

But it has not been without its issues, with the pollen count and UV levels growing to high levels in recent days.

Insurers previously warned that households may need to brace themselves for an influx of wasps due to inconsistencies in the weather so far this year.

It is believed that numbers of wasps could shoot up later this month and into August.
