Scotland's luxury home of the week: Inside this 15th century castle with unique decor

From the outside it looks like a typical Scottish hideaway built in the 15th century.

But on the inside, it's filled with a unique decor that's fit for any king or queen.

Granted the property might not be to everyone's taste, but you can't fault the owners for having style.

Named Monkton House, the home and grounds are situated in Old Craighall, Musselburgh, near Edinburgh.

According to Savills, the original house was remodelled in the late 17th century to give the two sides of the house completely different characteristics. The north elevation gives the appearance of a fortified property. While, the south elevation overlooking the gardens is domestic in style, with an elegant staircase.

There is an incredible old kitchen on the ground floor and a range of vaulted stores. On the first floor are well proportioned reception rooms with a Chinese drawing room, a library, an elegant dining room served by a recently fitted modern kitchen and a panelled sitting room with a wood-burning stove.

If that's not enough space, there are five bedrooms on the second floor and three bathrooms and a large Expressionist style bathroom off the main bedroom.

As well as all this there's also Monkton House Cottage which has a living room, kitchen, two bedroom and a bathroom.

All of this isn't coming in cheap, of course, Monkton House is on the market for offers over £995,000.
