Scotland's first Melia hotel given green light by Glasgow City Council

Scotland's first Melia hotel looks set to open in Glasgow after city planners gave proposals the green light.

Late last year, plans were submitted for the conversion of a St Vincent Street office block into the 149-room hotel.

The Meliá branded 'Innside' hotel, which will include a bar/restaurant area and a three-storey extension, will be developed at 250 St Vincent Street in the heart of Glasgow city centre.

Glasgow City Council granted permission earlier this week, subject to conditions.

Documents reviewed by the planning committee read: "The redevelopment will bring a longstanding vacant office building back into beneficial use, reinstating the grandeur of the building and returning it to its original use as a 149 bedroom Meliá Innside hotel.

"Meliá Hotels International, one of the largest hotel companies in the world, currently operate four Meliá hotels in England including, three in London, and one in Manchester with a further two currently under development in Newcastle and Liverpool.

"This development will bring the first Meliá branded hotel to Scotland with the introduction of the Innside by Meliá brand to this prime location."
