Scotland's biggest open water rowing race comes to Dumbarton

Scotland’s biggest open water rowing race comes to Dumbarton this weekend, as crews race from the town’s rock to Glasgow’s Finnieston Crane.

The 13 mile Castle to Crane event, which starts from Sandpoint Marina slipway on Saturday (September 21) at 11am, will pass some of the most iconic places on the Clyde before reaching the finish.

Any fixed seat, coxed rowing boat of at least four oars is eligible to take part, with organisers claiming that the event will play host to the biggest fleet of rowing boats since in Scotland since the Battle of Largs in 1263.

Last year the organisers welcomed 73 entries, with Collieston Offshore Rowing Club, based near Peterhead, taking home the prestigious Median Trophy for the overall winner.
