A BUTCHER’S in Fife has made the “difficult decision” to close just months after it was crowned the best small butchers in Scotland at a prestigious award ceremony.
The award-winning Puddledub, Kirkcaldy, announced on social media this week that it was closing its doors for good on Saturday.
Located on High Street, the owner of the renowned shop, Peter Mitchell, said the decision was made with “great sadness” after a buyer for the business fell through.
In a short statement on social media, Mitchell explained that he remains hopeful to find a buyer who can continue to “build on the successful business”, which has been running on the high street since 2017.
The post read: “We feel we’ve done a lot over the last few years, including winning numerous industry awards and achieved a high level recognition as well as supporting the high st and community .
“We would like to thank all of our customers and neighbours. We will Miss you!
“It would be great to see all of the hard work from our team over the years continued if anyone is interested, please contact us.”
The shop sold cured, cooked, smoked and fresh meat products.
It comes after Puddledub was crowned the Best Small Butcher in Scotland at the British Butchery Awards in July this year.
At the time, the business said on social media: “We can’t quite believe our small, family business has been chosen for such a prestigious award - the whole team is absolutely delighted to say the least!

“We would love to thank our fantastic suppliers and customers without whom this would not have been possible.”
The business closed on Saturday after they discounted and ran specials on many items to help clear their stock.
