Scotland's best restaurant launches ambitious expansion plan as glazed enclosure part of big makeover

One of Ayrshire’s top restaurants is planning a big makeover — with a brand new glazed enclosure.

The Fox & Willow, one of Scotland’s best known boutique gastropubs, have submitted ambitious plans to enhance their offering.

Owners of the award-winning eaterie, on Ayr’s Carrick Road, are seeking permission to make alterations and extend the business.

A planning application has been submitted and is currently listed as ‘pending consideration’ on South Ayrshire Council’s online planning portal.

The plans include building a glazed enclosure to the existing raised terrace seating area at the rear of the restaurant so that they can offer both open air and enclosed dining.

The firm behind the design plan is Ayr-based ARPL Architects.

Although the proposal will not increase dining capacity, it's hoped that the glazed enclosure will ‘enhance’ diners’ experiences at the premises.

Back in September, Ayrshire Live told how the restaurant was hailed Scotland’s best after fighting back from Covid restrictions.

The Fox & Willow was named Restaurant of the Year at the illustrious Dram awards.

The popular dining spot was given high praise for first class service and vibrant atmosphere as they were announced as winners at a glitzy bash in Glasgow.

The Fox and Willow were paid a visit by mystery diners who evaluated all aspects of the restaurant.

And the judges were blown away with the team scoring high across the board.

The award win came after the toughest 18 months of the restaurant’s four years in business- with Covid restrictions and lockdowns hammering the industry.

At the time owners Lauren and Allan Low told how their big win meant more after experiencing the lowest points throughout the pandemic.

Just days after the award win the restaurant was, however, targeted by hooded yobs who trashed the restaurant’s outdoor dinning domes, a popular fixture at the Fox since they were introduced in 2020.

The incident prompted an appeal from police to help catch the culprits.
