Scotland records 39 covid deaths and 2,691 new cases in past 24 hours

Scotland has recorded 39 coronavirus deaths and 2,691 new positive cases in the past 24 hours, the latest Scottish Government figures show.

It means the death toll under this daily measure - of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - now stands at 8,760.

This figure differs from the weekly death total announced by the National Records of Scotland, which covers all deaths registered where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

The daily test positivity rate is 6.8% from 42,191 new covid tests that reported results.

A total of 980 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19, with 69 patients in intensive care.

So far, 4,235,075 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination and 3,854,847 have received their second dose.
