Scotland receive Nations League boost as worried Israel boss shares sack fears

Under-pressure Israel boss Willy Ruttensteiner has admitted he has to wreck Scotland’s Nations League dream – or he’ll be out of a job.

Steve Clarke’s side know they’ll top the section if they win in Tel Aviv but the hosts also need victory to avoid relegation.

Ruttensteiner, who is also the Israel’s technical director, will hold talks with his national association bosses after this campaign but knows staying at the current level is the minimum expectation.

It has been a group of disappointment for the Israels who made the play-offs in the last competition before they were narrowly beaten by Scotland on penalties.

Ruttensteiner said: “If I want to stay? This is not a question I need to answer – it’s for the association.

“I will sit down with them in early December and make the decision after discussing the matter once all the games have been completed.

“I already said I will not talk about it at this stage. I knew before the game it was going to be very difficult. “Now we have a game against Scotland and if we win it we will meet our goal which is to stay in the second tier.

“We will try to fix that for the next game, analyse things and do them better against Scotland.”

The coach also defended his decision to stick by Hibs No. 1 Ofir under-fire Marciano for the weekend defeat in the Czech Republic.

Ruttensteiner stated: “Like I said, we decided on Marciano from what we saw in the training sessions and games of the goalkeepers in the teams.

“We decided it was the best solution for the game and it’s not my job to criticise him right now.

“The goal was not his fault and he didn’t have a lot to do.

“On the other hand, he had a great save.

“I do not understand why people talk about Ofir now, he had a satisfactory performance for me."
