Scotland player ratings as Steve Clarke's men capitulate in sorry second half against Russia

Scotland suffered their second defeat to Russia in EURO 2020 qualifying after a disastrous second half saw them leak four goals without reply.

A brace from towering striker Artem Dzyuba, a 25 yard screamer from Magomed Ozdoev and a tidy finish from Alexandr Golovin highlighted the chasm between the two teams.

Scotland may have defended stoutly in the first half but they rarely threatened the Russian keeper in a poor offensive display.

It means Steve Clarke 's side now lie fifth in Group I, behind Cyprus and Kazakhstan and facing an uphill battle to even place third.

Here's how  Record Sport 's Craig Swan rated Scotland man-by-man.

David Marshall - 6

Good stop from Golovkin in the opening period. No real chance with any of the four Russian goals after the restart.

Liam Palmer - 5

Second cap. Lost Kudryashov at the back stick as the Russian shot over and troubled constantly by the full-back’s raids.

Mikey Devlin - 5

Debut for the Aberdeen stopper and acquitted himself okay initially. However, not able to stem the tide after interval.

Charlie Mulgrew - 5

Left side of the defensive duo. Crucially out-muscled by Dzyuba at the opener and also nudged aside by the striker for the third.

Andy Robertson - 5

Skipper made a crucial block to clear away net-bound Lonov shot. Dealt well with two-on-one situations before it went badly awry.

Callum McGregor - 5

Held a deeper position and knocked it about with confidence at times before spending the last half hour chasing and tracking.

John Fleck - 5

First cap for the Sheffield United ace and booked for taking out Golovin. Tidy before being overrun in the engine room after break.

John McGinn - 6

Played high up the pitch and got beyond Burke at the beginning with his runs. Covered every blade of grass as he hounded in vain.

Ryan Fraser - 5

Operated off the right flank and not picked out when clean through by Snodgrass . Taken off and replaced by Christie.

Robert Snodgrass - 5

Tried to track Fernandes and get on the ball. Failed to get Fraser away and not picked out twice by the winger when clear.

Oliver Burke - 3

Frustrating as he was unable to take advantage of some good positions before the break and replaced at the half-time interval.

Subs

(Daily Record)

Lawrence Shankland - 3

Settled onto the scene with sure touch and decent hold-up play. No service by the end.

Ryan Christie - 2

On for the last quarter and powerful strike held by Marinato.

Stuart Armstrong - 2

Last nine minutes in place of Fleck.
