Scotland player ratings as Kieran Tierney falls short but Billy Gilmour adds to hype

CRAIG GORDON: Big night for the Hearts keeper as he regained the No.1 jersey but was left dazed by Danes’ quick fire double. Did well to keep out a Delaney strike. 6

GRANT HANLEY: Dropped too deep and played on Daniel Wuss for the Danes’ opener but did well to help steady the ship in face of World Cup qualifying heavy pressure. 6

LIAM COOPER: Produced a vital block on Damsgaard early on but was pulled about by the runs of the Danish frontline as Scotland shipped the second. 5

SCOTT McKENNA: The Nottingham Forrest man really toiled to deal with Damsgaard’s clever movement and it was no surprise to see him hooked at half-time. 5

(SNS Group)

ANDY ROBERTSON: The skipper took one for the team as he shifted to right back but it was a thankless task as Denmark hogged possession. Moved back to normal slot at half-time. 5

BILLY GILMOUR: Frustrating night for the midfield starlet as he was starved of the ball but showed glimpses of why he can be a key man for Clarke. Came close with a second-half drive. 7

KENNY McLEAN: First start for Scotland since he return from a three month knee injury lay-off and it showed as he tired late on. 5

CALLUM McGREGOR: The Celtic skipper ran himself into the ground yet barely laid a glove on his opposite number Hojbjerg. Guilty of wasting possession too. 5

KIERAN TIERNEY: So often Scotland’s Mr Reliable but left Steve Clarke ’s team facing an uphill battle when he failed to check the run of Daniel Wuss for Denmark’s first goal. 5

CHE ADAMS: Trudged around for most of the game when Scotland really needed all hands on deck. Replaced with quarter of an hour left. 5

RYAN FRASER: Did nothing while playing up top but delivered a couple of decent crosses after being shifted to right wing back at the break. Unlucky not to score late on. 6

Subs:

LYNDON DYKES (46 for McKenna): Gave Scotland so much needed dig up front. 5

RYAN CHRISTIE: (72 for Adams): Provided fresh legs in the closing stages but could not spark a fightback. 3

DAVID TURNBULL (86 for McLean): Second cap for the Parkhead playmaker as he was thrown on late. 2

LEWIS FERGUSON (90 for Gilmour): Debut appearance but didn't get a touch. 1

SUBS NOT USED: Liam Kelly, Zander Clarke, Jack Hendry, Declan Gallagher,
