Scotland player ratings as Arsenal star earns top marks from Faroe Islands rout

Dominant Scotland put the Faroe Islands to the sword to earn the first win of their World Cup group.

John McGinn's double, a Che Adams strike and a Ryan Fraser header were enough to earn Steve Clarke ’s side a comfortable win in Glasgow.

The evening saw a shake-up in formation with Scott McTominay dropping into a back three and Craig Gordon was given a chance between the sticks.

Kenny McLean was also handed a rare start in midfield on an impressive night for the national side at Hampden.

It gives a boost to Scotland's hopes of reaching Qatar 2022 with Austria slipping up against Denmark elsewhere in Group F.

Here's how Record Sport rated the Scotland players.

Recalled to the starting line-up and magnificent flying save to deny Hendriksson. Got away with a dropped cross and made second late stop for clean sheet - 7

SCOTT McTOMINAY

Switched back to a defensive role as part of the back three and pinged classy passes from deep. Headed good chance wide from Fraser free-kick - 7

Bombed out of the back three regularly and brilliant pullback for McGinn strike. Same again for team-mate’s second and a fantastic all-action performance - 9

Dovetailed with Tierney down the left flank and constant source summed up with a delightful lift to the far post for Fraser to nod the fourth. Good show - 7

JOHN McGINN

Lethal left-foot finish to open the scoring for a ninth goal for his country and made it 10 with a stylish header as the talisman came up with the good in front of goal again - 8

LYNDON DYKES

QPR striker did plenty of hard work without looking as sharp as his partner Adams. No real chances, but played his part in occupying defenders - 7

Touch good and strong running power with the ball at his feet. Glancing header saved. Gorgeous flick and powerful finish for a first Scotland strike - 8
