John McGinn insists Scotland were much more like a 'Steve Clarke team' in the stalemate against Denmark.
The Scots held the Danes to a goalless draw at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen tonight.
It means Scotland start off the World Cup qualifying campaign with a point away at the top seeds in the group, with the next game up against Belarus.
“We suffered a lot in the first 15 minutes," McGinn told BBC Scotland post-match. "It was important we didn’t concede during that period, otherwise it would have become an uphill task.
“The effort was there from everyone. They’ve got a good record here and we managed to keep a clean sheet, which was excellent.
“It’s very easy to criticise Grant [Hanley], people will have been looking at the team and thinking ‘Oh we should play a younger one,’ but he heads everything, and clears everything.
“Gunny came up with a couple of big saves. Soapy put his body on the line and it wasn’t easy for Max to come into.
“The back four were great, but it all comes from the frontline though with Dykes and Che. They gave everything.
“It was about staying in the game. There have been other times in the past where we’ve given ourselves too much to do.
“We’re managing games better in the last couple of years. We probably haven’t been our best in more recent times, but tonight looked more like a Steve Clarke team.”

There was a scare on 71 minutes when the referee was invited over to the pitch side monitor to review footage of a handball by Max Johnston.
The substitute had only come on the pitch to replace the impressive Aaron Hickey at right-back.
But he was caught out when he tried to defend a long ball when up against former Motherwell forward Mika Biereth - who woud've been clean through on goal had it not been for Johnston's unorthodox intervention.
McGinn added: “Just head it mate! Fair play to the ref, because when he’s told to go to the screen most just bottle it and give a red card. It was sensible for it to be a yellow.”
