Scotland opt out of taking the knee and stand against racism at Euro 2020 instead

Scotland will continue to take a stand – rather than a knee – against racism at Euro 2020.

Skipper Andy Robertson says Steve Clarke’s squad have decided the move, which they adopted for March’s World Cup qualifiers, is the strongest way to show solidarity.

Robertson, his team mates, coaches and backroom staff will now stand up to racism immediately before kick-off in the three Group D fixtures against Czech Republic at Hampden, England at Wembley and Croatia back in Glasgow.

England revealed earlier this week they will continue to take the knee - despite booing from sections of the crowd when they did so ahead of Sunday’s friendly against Romania.

Scotland skipper Robertson said: “It is important we continue to tackle the issue of racism and raise awareness of the need to change people’s mindsets but also their behaviours.

“Prior to our World Cup qualifiers in March we spoke as a group and felt that taking a stand was the best way for us to show solidarity and also to reinforce the need for meaningful change in society.”

Czech Republic have yet to declare if they will take a stance on the subject ahead of Monday’s opener in Glasgow.

The spotlight is on Zlatko Dalic’s side after defender Ondrej Kudela was banned for 10 games for racially abusing Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara in March’s Europa League clash with Slavia Prague.
