Scotland lockdown update: Bars, restaurants, gyms and hairdressers to begin reopening from end of April

Scotland's bars, restaurants, pubs, hairdressers and gyms are expected to begin reopening from the end of April 2021, Nicola Sturgeon has said.

The 'significant' restart of the economy would include non essential retail, hospitality such as restaurants, bars and pubs and services like gyms and hairdressers.

The First Minister added that she hopes that she can also lift the stay-at-home restriction in Scotland from April 5.

The final phase of the return of Scotland's schools would also take place on this date as well.

Nicola Sturgeon says that - if cases remain low – Scotland will move fully back to a tiered system from the last week in April as the economy begins to reopen.

She added that she hopes that all parts of the country will be able to move to level 3 after Scotland's national lockdown ends.

The FM told the Scottish Parliament: "In the coming weeks, if the data allows and positive trends continue, we will seek to accelerate the easing of restrictions."

However, Ms Sturgeon added that travel restrictions are to remain in place in Scotland for some time yet.
