Scotland lockdown: Nicola Sturgeon to introduce 'package' of new restrictions in next 48 hours

Nicola Sturgeon has announced in her daily coronavirus briefing that the Scottish Government is preparing to introduce a 'package' of new lockdown restrictions in the coming days.

The First Minister stated that coronavirus “is spreading again in Scotland” and said that “doing nothing is not an option”.

She stated that she hopes to announce these measures either tomorrow or Wednesday at a Scottish Parliament address, with final details still being worked out between Holyrood ministers and health experts.

“The position Scotland is now in is similar to France was four weeks ago,” she added. Deaths and hospital admissions in France have risen steadily in recent weeks.

"In my view, further and urgent action will now be needed to stop the increase in the number of cases."

The First Minister said that some of the restrictions that Scotland will implement will likely follow a four nation basis. Boris Johnson is due to speak the leaders of the devolved administrations taking place this afternoon.

Nicola Sturgeon announced that this 'package' of new measures would include "plans to better support people who are being advised to self isolate."

She stated that the government are discussing a financial package for anyone required to isolate from low-income households, saying that "no-one should choose between paying their rent or self-isolating."
