Scotland leave behind SIX more stars for Holland clash as Steve Clarke takes no chances after Covid scare

Scotland have been hit with more Covid-19 turmoil with six stars being forced to remain in Spain while the rest of the side takes on Holland tonight.

Record Sport understands John McGinn, David Marshall, Grant Hanley, Nathan Patterson, Che Adams and Stephen O’Donnell have all stayed behind at the base in La Finca – but none of the players have produced positive results in the latest rounds of testing.

Steve Clarke is being ultra cautious after John Fleck’s Covid case as although the players were not flagged up as part of contract tracing, it was felt they were in the vicinity of the midfielder.

It is understood the six could have travelled to the Algarve but the manager felt it wasn’t a risk worth taking.

The players left behind are not being forced to isolate at this stage but Scotland don’t want to take any chance with the clock counting down to the Euro 2020 curtain raiser against Czech Republic on June 14.

The manager will have to cobble a side together but he said: “Every time we come together I’m saying to the lads in training everybody is important and you never know when you’re going to be asked to play.

“Certainly in these uncertain times you never know when you are going to be asked to step up.

“Hopefully they can keep impressing – they’ve all impressed me so far in training.”
