Scotland holds its breath as our heroic boys are one Euro win away from historic glory

Scotland's national football team stand on the brink of history.

A victory over Croatia tonight would set us up to qualify for the group stages of a major tournament for the first time ever.

The 11 Scots who take to the Hampden pitch carry on their shoulders the hopes and dreams of generations of Tartan Army fans.

In the words of Rod Stewart - one of Scotland’s most famous fans - the years of failure have been “absolutely heartbreaking”.

But tonight is a chance to forget all that.

Just the small matter of a victory against one of Europe’s top sides and 90 minutes of football stand in the way of greatness.

This is the night that manager Steve Clarke, captain Andy Robertson and their team of Bravehearts can prove to Europe that Scotland is a force to be reckoned with in football.

They’ve already shown they have the spirit and energy to do it on the field after holding the Auld Enemy to a draw at Wembley.

Yesterday, the team was dealt a blow with the news that midfielder Billy Gilmour has tested positive for Covid-19 - but thankfully the rest of the squad were given the all-clear.

In an exclusive interview with the Record, rocker Rod summed up the mood of a nation when he said: “They’re already heroes. Now is the time for them to become legends.”

It’s over to you, boys. Good luck.
