Scotland hit by yet another earthquake as locals report hearing 'loud bang'

Scotland has been hit by yet another earthquake with locals reporting 'big banging" sounds.

The British Geological Survey said that the 2.2 magnitude tremor hit Roybridge in the Scottish Highlands at 9.29pm on Friday November 19.

The quake - the fourth tremor reported across the country in the last week - struck at a depth of 7.5km, with many locals reporting hearing a "loud bang".

One resident asked on Facebook : "Another earthquake in Roybridge???"

Some noted that they had heard and felt it in Bohenie and Roughburn as well.

One person replied: "I just heard a big banging in Spean, I thought it was someone’s bins or something."

The British Geological Survey said: "A small number of reports have been received by members of the public in the Roybridge area indicating they felt this event."

It is the third report of seismic activity from the village in recent days, with the last being a 0.9 magnitude tremor at 4.09am on Tuesday November 16.

It followed a 1.6 shake around an hour and a half earlier, both of which were at a depth of 7km, the British Geological Survey noted.

The first earthquake in Roybridge came almost an hour after people in the West of Scotland experienced a 3.3 earthquake.

Its epicentre was about 11 miles (18km) north west of Lochgilphead in Argyll and Bute, and 88 miles (142km) north west of Glasgow.
