Scotland hero Declan Gallagher wants Nations League positives for Serbia showdown

Declan Gallagher hopes Scotland can beat Czech Republic on Wednesday to top their Nations League group and take positives into their European Championships play-off final with Serbia next month.

Lyndon Dykes' second Scotland goal gave us a 1-0 win over Slovakia at Hampden yesterday to top Group B2 on seven points, and the midweek clash will settle it, with the Czechs a point behind.

Gallagher, who played as part of a solid-looking back three alongside debutant Andy Considine and Scott McTominay, says they took a lot of positives from the game.

The Motherwell skipper told Scotland National Team media: "It was brilliant, obviously it's another game won, I think that's seven unbeaten now, so that's really positive for everybody in the camp and everybody for the full nation.

"It was a really professional performance from start to finish and we got the goal. The management team told us to be patient at half-time and that we had chances and the goal was going to come, and that's exactly what happened.

"It's very positive in the camp now, and it's very positive going into the game in November.

"I think first and foremost we have to concentrate on the Czech Republic.

Gallagher says confidence is high in the Scotand camp (SNS Group / SFA)

"We want to finish this group top of the table and if we can do that then it has definitely been a positive camp, and obviously that breeds into the next camp going into November, so we'll take care of this game and we'll see what happens."

Gallagher has enjoyed playing in defence under boss Stevie Clarke, and alongside Aberdeen's Considine, who slotted in well.

He said: "I'm finding it good as part of a back three, we're really solid and we've been working on it a lot in the last two camps.

"I think it's working well, I can see clean sheets in the last two games, we're not conceding any shots and stuff like that, so we're defending really well and we're hard to beat.

"Lyndon Dykes getting his goal is brilliant for us, so we're off the mark there as well.

"I thought Andy Considine was excellent, he was brilliant and stepped in as if it was his 50th cap and not his first.

"He was unbelievable but the boys all knew that, we all know what Andy's done, he has been a great professional through his full career, so his first cap was very well deserved and I thought he was excellent."
