Scotland hero Billy Gilmour surprises Ardrossan kids as Chelsea star hands out medals during visit home

Billy Gilmour made a title-winning youth team's day – by handing them their trophy and medals.

The 20-year-old is back home in Ardrossan this weekend after starring for Scotland against England at Wembley in the Euros.

And the down-to-earth midfielder paid a surprise visit to the town's Winton Park to be part of a very special occasion.

Ayrshire Live watched as he presented the young players of Winton Rovers 2008s their silverware and medals before smiling and applauding as the stars of tomorrow celebrated their achievement.

Chelsea ace Gilmour will be playing on loan at English Premier League new boys Norwich City next season.

However, this afternoon he was sporting a Tass Thistle top – the Ayrshire club where he began his football journey.

Gilmour is no stranger to Winton Park as his dad, Billy snr, played for the club.

Meanwhile, Winton Rovers' former goalkeeper Stevie O'Neill told Ayrshire Live how the Scotland starlet was smashing goals past him for fun when he was just eight years old.

It has been a busy weekend for Gilmour who posed for pictures with starstruck kids after travelling to New Cumnock yesterday to watch Glenafton Athletic beat Whitletts Vics 4-0. He was later spotted at another friendly, Ardrossan's win over Benburb.

Gilmour earned rave reviews for his performance in the 0-0 draw with the Auld Enemy but his Euros ended when he tested positive for Covid which ruled him out of the 3-1 defeat to Croatia.
