Scotland footballer reveals having sporting family helped her through cancer battle

Scotland footballer Jen Beattie has revealed how having a sporting family helped her through her breast cancer battle.

The Arsenal defender was diagnosed with the illness in October after finding a lump on her breast.

Jen, 29, had surgery to remove the tumour and has continued to play football throughout her health battle.

Jen’s BBC presenter father John and brother Johnnie were Scotland rugby internationals and she said: “I remember a conversation with my brother and he was like, ‘Jenny, you’re going to be fine, you can do this’.

“That was honestly the crossover point for me to just be like ‘OK, I can. I’m going to be fine’.”
