Scotland fan visits 26 streets which share name of each international squad player

A dedicated young Scotland fan has embarked on an ambitious mission to visit a street for each of the 26 squad members to mark the nation's first major tournament qualification in 23 years.

David Little, 20, from Glasgow, completed "several stupidly long walks" as well as many runs, cycles and journeys on public transport.

Donned in a Tartan Army top, David documented his journey as he finally completed the mission.

He told the Daily Record how inspiration struck as he walked down Robertson Street in Glasgow.

David said: "I was walking in town and saw Robertson Street and thought maybe I could find some more of these for players on the team.

“I was thinking that it would only be in Glasgow first of all but looking on Google Maps, I couldn’t do them all there so I had to go a little bit further.

“I ended up in Falkirk, Airdrie, Carluke and Edinburgh but the furthest away I went was actually to Stoke-on-Trent. I ended up getting four streets there so it was worth the train ride.

“I got Tierney Street, Cooper Street, Hanley Road and Clarke Street obviously for Steve Clarke.

“I posted it online just before the kick off of the Czech Republic game so I don't imagine any of the players were on their phones.”

He added: I’m still positive that we can beat England.

“Obviously it was disappointing after the Czech Republic game but I think we can do better. A goal at least would be nice.”

Sharing a photo collage of the streets on Twitter, he said: "To mark Scotland qualifying for the first major tournament in my lifetime, I decided to visit a street for each of the 26 named Scotland #EURO2020 squad members.

"Several stupidly long walks, runs, cycles and bus/train journeys later, I finally completed my mission."

Thousands have been impressed by the colossal effort and the post has racked up over 3,000 likes and nearly 500 retweets.

Some even suggested that he should try the same with the Polish squat but mapping out the distance, this idea was quickly shot down.

The official Specsavers account was among many to congratulate David on his efforts.

They said: "This is excellent. Maybe one day there will be a McTominay Street #Sco."

One person said: "Utterly bonkers, David, and fantastically heroic at the same time. Well done you."

Another added: "This makes me inexplicably happy! Chapeau. C’mon Scotland."

The young Scot even captured a Clarke Street in honour of manager Steve Clarke.

Visits to streets across the country included Forrest Street in Camlachie, Glasgow, Fleck Avenue, Saltcoats and McKenna Drive and Gallagher Court in Airdrie.
