Scotland Euro 2020 kits for dogs fly off the shelves at Ayrshire pet store

Scotland-crazy dog owners have snapped up strips for pooches sold by an Ayrshire pet accessories shop in huge numbers as Euro 2020 kicks off.

And one of the coveted retro jerseys, modelled on the 1967 one worn in the victory against world champions England at Wembley, has made a marathon 9,000 mile-journey to Australia.

Meanwhile, shirt sellers the Pooch Pantry in Troon are also hoping to be Top Dog in a challenge of their own, in which, ironically, former national team boss Craig Levein is a judge.

The tops went on sale last week and have been flying off the shelves in the style of goalie David Marshall, the Euro play-off penalty hero.

Shop owner Marion McLean said: “Our initial stock sold out completely by last weekend and one order has already been dispatched all the way to Australia.

“Orders have come through the papers, Instagram and Facebook. We got another supply in on Thursday and we had a waiting list.

“It has already gone at a great rate of knots.

“Most of the people interested have come from Ayrshire and Glasgow.”

Meanwhile, Marion is hard at work after being selected for the Scottish SPCA Top Dog Challenge with her dog Truffle.

The challenge is for business leaders and their dogs to work as a team to help raise funds for Scotland’s animals.

She is being given coaching on how to create the perfect selfie with her dog, who will have to learn some new tricks to impress their friends, family and business network.

The judges include Levein, a dog owner; former Crufts winner Danny Short, professional animal behaviourist Jo-Rosie Heffenden and Nando Brown, co-founder of the School of Canine Science.

Marion has a target of £500 to raise for the challenge by the end of June and had so far secured £215.
