Scotland Euro 2020: Ayrshire Tartan Army get the party started

Ayrshire's own Tartan Army kicked off Scotland's Euro 2020 party on Saturday at a sold-out event.

Around 100 fitba-daft fans got together at Meadow Park in Irvine to celebrate the men's national side's first appearance at a major tournament in 23 years.

Scotland strips, flags, kilts and even tartan hats were the order of the day as supporters young and old enjoyed an afternoon of fun and games in the sunshine.

International ace Erin Cuthbert — who hails from the town — even got in on the act, donating a signed football top for a fundraising auction.

Eilidh Agnew, of Irvine Meadow Social Club, organised the event to pay tribute to Steve Clarke's history makers.

She said: "My dad and brother are in the Tartan Army and we never qualify for anything so I felt like we had to do something!

"It was a brilliant day and everyone really got into the spirit of it by dressing up in their best Scotland attire and enjoying themselves.

"The community really got behind it. We had plenty of donations including a load of goodies from Tesco.

"I went to school with Erin Cuthbert and she was good enough to hand in a top for us to auction which was brilliant."

Scotland make their bow at the tournament this afternoon when they take on the Czech Republic in their opening Group D clash.

And Eilidh revealed she knows just how high passions run when it comes to the national side.

She added: "At Euro 96, I was just five weeks old and my dad left me and my mum to it to go down to Wembley. My mum was fizzing!"
