Scotland Covid rules: all the things you can't do in Glasgow from today

Scotland has moved into super-strict lockdown this week, with schools remaining closed and people banned from leaving their homes for all but essential purposes.

The tough new measures are similar to the full lockdown in March in a bid to stem the rapidly rising tide of new coronavirus cases threatening to engulf the NHS.

And while there are some differences, Ms Sturgeon has warned that restrictions could be set to get tougher with the fate of Click and Collect services and construction sites hanging in the balance for the duration of the new lockdown, among other changes.

From today (Friday 8th January), we are set to see further restrictions.

Up to 20 people will still be able to attend funeral services, wakes will not be allowed during January.

A maximum of five people will be able to attend wedding and civil partnership services.

More businesses will be required to shut down

Businesses must ensure that every person who can work from home and look at their operations to send anyone home that they can. The number of non-essential services which remain open will be further restricted.

Premises which will need to close as a result of these changes will include, ski centres, showrooms of larger retailers, and clinics offering cosmetic and aesthetic procedures.

Grants are available for businesses required to close as a result of restrictions.

One metre rule to change at work

The current one metre exemption for workplace canteens will end and canteens will have to ensure that employees sit two metres or more apart, rather than one metre.
