Scotland coronavirus: Over 1000 new cases recorded overnight - a new record - with 190 in Lothian

Scotland has announced a new record daily jump in coronavirus cases today (Wednesday 7 October), with a shocking 1054 new cases reported overnight.

The new cases take the total number of positive cases in Scotland to 34,760.

190 of the cases were reported in the NHS Lothian health board area.

The Scottish Government also announced that the number of people in hospital with the virus has also risen by 54 overnight to 319.

28 people are in ICU, up three from yesterday (Tuesday 6 October) and there has been one additional death recorded.

The new cases represented 13 per cent of new tests in the past 24 hours.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is set to reveal new restrictions for Scotland this afternoon in an address to Scottish Parliament at 2.50pm.

According to a leaked report from the Sun, hospitality is set to face the brunt of the restrictions, with operating hours slashed to just 6am to 6pm.
