Scotland coronavirus latest: 88 new infections but no new deaths recorded in last 24 hours

Scotland has recorded an additional 88 positive cases of coronavirus in the last day.

It's an increase of 37 new cases on Friday, which saw 51 people test positive for coronavirus since the day before.

The figure represents 0.7% of those that were newly tested yesterday.

A total of 258 people are in hospital around the country with confirmed cases of the virus, which is three more since Friday.

However, no new deaths of patients with confirmed cases have been reported in the last 24 hours.

This means the total number of fatalities among confirmed cases this week remain at two.

Speaking of today's increase, Nicola Sturgeon said on Twitter: "The increase in cases just now partly reflects a greater volume of testing.

"Crucially, our positivity rate remains low (below 1% again today). So no need for alarm. But there is a need to be very careful & cautious."

36 of the new infections were confirmed in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area where there has been clusters.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon revealed on Friday that eleven people had tested positive for coronavirus following an outbreak in Hawick.
