Scotland coronavirus: Edinburgh suburb named among the 100 worst hit Covid hotspots in country

An Edinburgh neighbourhood has been named in the top 100 areas worst hit by coronavirus cases in the whole of Scotland.

While most of the Covid hotspots named came from Glasgow and the western central belt, only one Edinburgh area made it into the Scotland-wide list produced by The National.

Edinburgh's Currie West came in at number 68 in the whole of Scotland, with 16 cases per population of 6,164, which is a higher number of cases than anywhere else in Edinburgh at the moment.

The entire Currie area currently has 27 cases in total, with Currie East, sitting at 11.

Between 10 and 16 November there were 7,769 cases of the virus registered in Scotland which amounts to 142.2 cases per 100,000 population.

The report claimed that the City of Glasgow - which is currently in tier four of coronavirus restrictions - is the worst affected area in the whole of Scotland, registering 1,636 positive cases in the last seven days.

In contrast, Edinburgh has registered 453 cases of the the potentially deadly bug in the last seven days.
