Scotland confirm Scott McTominay blow and issue fitness update on Manchester United midfielder

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been ruled out of Scotland's final World Cup qualifier against Denmark on Monday night.

McTominay, 24, missed the win over Moldova on Friday due to a throat virus and has not recovered in time for the final Group F fixture at the start of next week.

Steve Clarke's side are already assured of a play-off spot to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar next year but will be hoping for a positive result against Denmark in order to boost their hopes of a home draw for the match.

However, any hopes of causing an upset against the Group F winners have taken a blow after talisman midfielder McTominay was officially ruled out of the match on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the match Clarke ruled out the United midfielder and revealed striker Lyndon Dykes is also a doubt for the match.

“Scott is definitely out," the manager told reporters at his press conference. "Scott hasn’t recovered enough from his virus.

“Lyndon didn’t do very much this morning. Lyndon, I would put at 50-50.”

McTominay, who has been capped 28 times by his country, scored his first international goal during a pulsating comeback victory over Israel last month.

Scotland are looking to qualify for their first World Cup since France '98.
