Scotland cap Steven Saunders in shock retirement U-turn as seventh tier Gartcairn seal signing coup

Steven Saunders has made a surprise move to seventh tier side Gartcairn just weeks after announcing his retirement.

The Scotland cap announced he was quitting the game after leaving Partick Thistle at the end of the curtailed campaign after their relegation from the Championship aged just 29.

The Rutherglen native revealed he was quitting the game after 12 years to pursue a career a mortgage adviser in August.

However, the defender has now opted for a move to the West of Scotland League conferences and MTC Park.

Saunders has turned out for his country while breaking through at Motherwell back in 2010 against the Faroe Islands in a 3-0 win.

The Welsh Premier League winner joins Gary Harkins in Airdrie as boss Willie Kinniburgh builds for the start of the new term in October 10.
