Scotland call-up for talented Springhill Boxing Club fighter

Three Springhill Boxing Club fighters took part in Boxing Scotland's Return to Boxing event last month, with Brandon Murray selected for the Emerging Talent group after impressing during an assessment.

Murray, Josh Mullen and Jayson Sneddon represented the Shotts club in Boxing Scotland’s Return to Boxing event on Saturday, August 21, which was a chance to get on the Scotland pathway.

Murray, 16, won on points against Greenock’s Mason Docherty; Jayson Sneddon, 15, beat Aaron Howatt from Cleland with a first-round knock-out, and Josh Mullen, 15, lost on points to Ben Paterson of Kingswells BC.

Murray was then assessed over two weekends at the High Performance Centre in Bridgeton, and will now train with the Scotland squad on a regular basis.

Delighted coach Frank Delaney said: “I had boys boxing, we had two winners and a loser in Return to Boxing, because it was the first show they’d had since the Covid thing.

“Boxing Scotland put the show on in the High Performance Centre in Bridgeton, Glasgow, which was a pathway for the Scotland squad.

“Josh had a very close fight but lost on points, Jayson had a good victory, knocked his opponent out in the first round, and Brandon had a good win.

“There were assessments to get them onto the pathway, to see how good or how ready they were for that, and Brandon got picked for it.

“He’s on that course, they go in every so often and train with them, and with their coaches.

“It’s great to have the gym back up and running again, and everybody’s buzzing.”
