Scotland boss Steve Clarke on why he'll not hesitate to recall Hearts duo when time is right

Scotland manager Steve Clarke has explained why he'll not hesitate to recall Hearts duo Steven Naismith and Craig Gordon.

Both men were left out of the squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Israel and the Czech Republic, with the Jambos yet to get their 2020/21 season underway.

However Clarke says that the experience the duo have means it won't be difficult to bring them back into the fold if and when they are needed.

The Scotland boss said: "I could've picked them, but they are both very experienced players who, if they had to come into the next squad, would be ready to come in.

"It's not as if they are young and need to come in and learn the ropes. They've got loads of caps between them and I've no worries of I need to pick either of those two in the future. No big issue."

Clarke added: “Craig Gordon I’ve touched on. If I needed Craig and he’s back in the Hearts team and playing week in, week out as he can play, then he’s another option.

“But at some stage, you have to look towards the future a little bit and obviously Robby is one of our younger goalkeepers.

“Liam Kelly wasn’t in the QPR team at the end of last season and Craig McGilviray lost his place in the Portsmouth team so it just seemed like the ideal time to bring young Robby in and have a look at him."

Scotland face Israel on Friday September 4 before taking on the Czech Republic on Monday September 7.

The full squad is as follows: David Marshall, Robby McCrorie, Jon McLaughlin, Liam Cooper, Declan Gallagher, Scott McKenna, Stephen O'Donnell, Liam Palmer, Andy Robertson, Greg Taylor, Kieran Tierney, Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Christie, John Fleck, Ryan Jack, John McGinn, Callum McGregor, Kenny McLean, Scott McTominay, Oliver Burke, Lyndon Dykes, James Forrest, Oli McBurnie, Lawrence Shankland.
