Scotland boss Steve Clarke defends Stephen O'Donnell's performance against Czech Republic

Steve Clarke has defended Stephen O'Donnell's for his performance in Scotland's 2-0 defeat against Czech Republic.

The Wishaw ace received strong criticism from supporters and pundits after the disappointing EURO 2020 clash.

Scotland boss Clarke has picked O'Donnell regularly since taking over from Alex McLeish and the pair share a strong relationship from their time at Kilmarnock.

The 27-year-old is under pressure for a starting place at right-wing back against England from Rangers youngster Nathan Patterson.

The 19-year-old is a huge talent and Patterson has impressed when Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has called upon him in some important games last season.

Clarke has a big decision to make ahead of the game against the Auld Enemy but the Scotland boss passionately defended O'Donnell for his performance against the Czech Republic.

“Analyse the game and tell me what Stephen did wrong?” Clarke questioned .

“How many chances came off that side? Jakub Jankto, one of their most dangerous players, had a quiet game.

"Their left-back, a really good attacking left-back, Jan Boril, didn’t create a chance in the game.

“Analyse the game before we start killing players just because who they are and where they play.”
