Scotland boasts best value pints in UK with drinkers paying 86p less than average

Scotland boasts the best value pints of beer in the UK – with some drinkers paying 86p less than the national average.

Lucky drinkers in Dundee have the cheapest pints in the country, paying just £3.08 compared to the UK average of £3.94.

Perth is next cheapest at £3.14, followed by Inverness, where a jar costs £3.73, while in Aberdeen the same measure is £3.86.

But expect little change out of a fiver in Edinburgh, Britain’s fourth most expensive city for pints which cost £4.74 on average.

The Scottish capital is only outdone by London (£5.19), Brighton (£5.02) and Cambridge (£4.91). A pint in Glasgow costs £4.31 on average.

A study into pint prices was carried out by website finder.com. Researcher Georgia-Rose Johnson found the cost of a pint has risen by four times the rate of inflation this year.

However, she added: “It is probable that pubs and bars may have to increase their prices in order to make up for the losses they have incurred by being closed (because of lockdown), causing the cost of a pint to be even more expensive next year.”

Other UK cities see a wide range of prices, including £3.30 in Sunderland, £3.43 in Cardiff, £3.62 in Leicester, £3.64 in Hull, £3.72 in Leeds, £3.72 in Sheffield, £3.74 in Plymouth, £3.79 in Southend and £3.94 in Manchester.
