New research has revealed the hottest 'set-jetting' destinations around the world for 2023, and Scotland has placed near the top.
According to the research, which was carried out by travel experts at Planet Cruise using TikTok data, Scotland is the second hottest spot for 2023 with an impressive 537,700,000 views on the video sharing platform. With Scotland becoming a popular filming destination for big-budget Hollywood movies in recent years, it is no surprise that tourists are flocking to the country.
Set-jetting is a new trend that has emerged in the travel industry, which travellers visit the filming locations of their favourite films and TV shows. According to Planet Cruise, it has a significant positive impact on local economies, boosting tourism by an average of 31%.
The primary reason Scotland places so highly on the list is the upcoming release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny this summer. The long-awaited sequel was partly filmed in areas such as Glencoe, Biggar, and the Leaderfoot Viaduct.
Other recent and upcoming films that have been filmed in the country include The Batman, The Flash, and Tetris. Television series such as Andor, The Rig, The Crown, and The Traitors have also used Scotland as a filming location.
Coming in at number one on the list, with a huge 1,000,000,000 views on TikTok, is Venice Beach in California. The sunny beach town is where the highly-anticipated Barbie movie was filmed, so its popularity is set to skyrocket with its release in July.
Other destinations included in the top five are New Jersey, London, and Tropea. New Jersey and Tropea were both used as filming location for The Marvels, while London was used as a backdrop for Fast X and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
