Scotland 60-14 Tonga: New winger Kyle Steyn announces himself in first autumn international of 2021

Scotland claimed a 60-14 victory over Tonga at Murrayfield in the opening game of the Autumn Nations Series.

Fielding a number of new faces, Gregor Townsend’s team ran in 10 tries in all against the south seas islanders.

There were four touchdowns for South African-born wing Kyle Steyn, including a first-half hat-trick, on just his second international outing and his first start, earning him the man of the match award.

Fellow wing Rufus McLean - who was born in Boston, USA, but schooled in Scotland - crossed twice on his Test debut, with further tries coming from prop Pierre Schoeman, hooker George Turner, back rower Nick Haining and loosehead Oli Kebble.

Tonga, who have Cardiff attack coach Richie Rees as part of their coaching team this autumn, trailed 36-9 at half-time.

But they stuck in there and claimed a try of their own through tighthead prop Filimone Lolohea ahead of Scotland stretching the margin of victory with a couple of late scores, as Glasgow’s Steyn went over for a fourth time in the final play.
