Scotland 24-25 Wales: Scots pipped in Murrayfield classic after Zander Fagerson red card

Scotland came so close but so far against Wales in an epic 24-25 Six Nations loss at Murrayfield as they couldn't replicate their heroics from Twickenham on home soil.

Leigh Halfpenny's penalty capped an ill-disciplined opening six minutes from Scotland but Finn Russell answered between the posts up the other end.

Jonny Gray then rampaged to the Wales 22 before a Darcy Graham dink set up Ali Price to take it over for the first try of the match.

Stuart Hogg didn't want to feel left out and the skipper chipped through for himself to generate a commanding lead at Murrayfield, although Halfpenny botched an attempt to gather on the turf.

The visitors did hit back just before the interval however, making good use of a penalty advantage to work it from left to right for young winger Louis Rees-Zammit to score a vital try - although Dan Biggar fluffed the extras.

Scotland could have had a third try seven minutes after the restart but the TMO ruled crossing as Gary Graham went over the line just moments before Wales stormed upfield, won a penalty and took the ball up to Scotland's 22.

Liam Williams sauntered through some lax home defending before Callum Sheedy's conversion cut Scotland's lead to just two points.

Zander Fagerson was then sent off for a head-to-head hit on Wyn Jones after a TMO review that seemed rather harsh but Wales weren't for caring as Jones then carried over from a few yards out.

It was their first lead since the opening 10 minutes but minutes later Hogg took over from a scrum to give Gregor Townsend's 14 men a third try of the match, only for Rees-Zammit to collect his own chip and hand his team the lead.

A late rally from a penalty after the game ticked over 80 minutes had a nation believing for a split second - but Wales recovered to end the match and break Scotland hearts.
