The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) has called on politicians to create a dedicated Scotch whisky promotion fund.
In it's pre-election manifesto, the association asked the next Scottish Government to put in place new measures to help the industry recover after the pandemic.
Among its six demands, the SWA asked politicians to ensure a competitive environment for business, deliver a green recovery, support tourism in Scotland, work in partnership to tackle alcohol misuse, invest in digital and transport infrastructure and support international trade.
The report stated that it hopes the next administration commits to ensuring regulation supports and encourages economic growth and will postpone the deposit return scheme so businesses can focus on recovery and avoid unintended consequences in policy through business engagement.
It argued that the government will need to continue supporting tourism and hospitality businesses following the pandemic, therefore suggesting a new promotion fund to increase Scottish tourism.
SWA said it hopes the fund will build on the £1bn the industry already spends on promoting whisky around the world each year.
The group also called for the next government to support the permanent removal of tariffs of Scotch Whisky following the Boeing and Airbus dispute.
"The Scotch Whisky industry is working hard to recover from the impacts of the pandemic and to ensure we are in the best possible position to grow over the years ahead, and to play our full part in Scotland’s economic recovery,” read the manifesto.
