Scot who woke up 36 times a night sheds whopping seven stone after girlfriend dumps him for constant snoring

A man has revealed he lost seven stone in three months and cured his sleep apnoea after being dumped by his ex girlfriend over his loud snoring.

David Forbes, 45, from Aberdeen, tipped the scales at 21 stone and was "desperate to lose weight " after he would wake himself up 36 times a night.

The Housing Association clerk says his snoring caused him to be so tired he would fall asleep behind the wheel of his car.

Doctors diagnosed David with obstructive sleep apnoea - and told him it was too dangerous to drive with the condition.

He said: “I was gutted, especially because I’d just bought myself a new Jaguar. I’d known something was wrong because I was tired all the time and had even drifted off to sleep at the traffic lights.

"I couldn’t concentrate on things like reading."

He added: “I’d been chucked because of my snoring and, to be honest, I can’t blame her really as when the hospital monitored me, I was waking myself up 36 times an hour without knowing. The normal levels are five to six times.”

David was forced to wear a CPAP machine that helped him sleep at night.

But the clerk says he "hated" the mask - and decided his final option was to try and lose weight.

He said: “I had to wear the mask in bed at night, but I found it really horrible and hated it. So I said to my
consultant at the hospital, ‘if I lose weight, will it get better?’

“He said he couldn’t make any promises but that it was worth trying.”

“I was desperate to lose weight,” he added.

Consultant Claire Cooper, from Cambridge Weight Plan, put David on a strict 1:1 Diet which involved meal replacements and the weight quickly dropped off him.

Within three months, his sleep apnoea was gone and his weight dropped a whopping 7st 2lbs until he weighed a healthy 14 stone.

“It was incredible. I was going through a new pair of jeans every 10 to 14 days - I was effectively renting jeans,” he said.

David has now found a new lease of life and has taken up horse riding and motorcycling.

“I used to muck out my friend’s horses for her but there’s no way they’d have been able to find a horse that would’ve been able to take my weight before. Now I can ride a normal size horse," he said.

“I’ve also fitted into much smaller motorcycle gear and my mobility is so much better on the bike itself. I’m also opening batsman for Portculis Cricket Club and had my best ever season thanks to losing weight.”

He even revealed he is dating a new love interest.

“She met me when I was still big so I know she’s not with me because I’m now slim and I really don’t blame my ex for chucking me because I wouldn’t have been able to sleep next to someone who snored that much either,” he said.
