Scot who lost his job gets £1000 to spend in pub after appeal on Chris Moyles Show

A Scot who lost his job has had £1000 donated by well-wishers for him to spend in the pub.

Listeners of the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X rallied round to raise the cash yesterday for Barry Pirlie, from Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire.

Moyles was discussing pubs reopening in Scotland when long-time listener “Big Baz” texted the show to say he couldn’t afford to go for a pint.

After reading out the text on air, Moyles encouraged him to set up a GoFundMe page.

He said: “We could have a whip-round for you, Big Baz. The Big Baz Beer Fund.”

Listeners from around the world rallied round, with donations from Canada, Malta and Holland.

Former cleaner Baz then joined Moyles live on air by phone, saying: “I can’t believe it, can’t believe it.

“Can I just say to everyone who put in even a fiver, you have no idea.

“It’s not just about beer any more. That’s two months’ wages for me, on this job. Yeah, like, massive.

“Next month’s just going to be so much easier.”
