Scot viciously attacked on Ibiza holiday wakes up from coma

A Scot who was left in a coma after he was viciously attacked in Ibiza has woken up almost three weeks later.

Gavin Roberton , 28, was left fighting for his life in a Spanish hospital after he was punched in the head on August 28.

The electrician from Stewarton in Ayrshire had to be put into a medically induced coma after he suffered bleeding on the brain and a serious lung infection.

His mum Kirsty McMaster confirmed Gavin had opened his eyes for the first time since the horrific incident and is now responding to questions.

He remains in intensive care and is still on a ventilator as he continues to make a ‘slow’ recovery.

Mum Kirsty said: “On Friday, Gavin opened his eyes. Since then he has very slowly been starting to move his arms and legs.

“He is responding to questions with a nod or shake of his head. We test him out by asking if he wanted us to sing to him, no surprise when he shook his head.

“The journey for Gavin is going to be slow. He is currently still in intensive care and on a ventilator but hopefully over this coming week we will see improvement and will be a step closer to bringing him home.

“A big thank you for all the messages of love and support we have been receiving.”

Gavin was attacked after heading to a cash point for money just seven hours before he was due to fly home from the party island.

A fundraising campaign to support Gavin and his family has reached more than £41,000 of a £60,000 target after it was revealed he had not taken out travel insurance before he flew to Spain.
