Scot shouted 'stop, stop' as truck hit road worker pal who was resurfacing East Kilbride street

A road worker was fatally injured after being struck by a truck, a court heard.

Gary Anderson, 58, was resurfacing a road in East Kilbride when a sprayer tanker hit him in July 2017.

Assistant engineering officer David Burnside, 39, told a jury at Hamilton Sheriff Court he saw the tanker veer towards Gary.

He said he sounded his horn and shouted, “Stop, stop”.

Gary later died from injuries sustained.

It is claimed driver Dennis Johnston, 58, wedged a brush head on the accelerator to help with cleaning, tried to remove it and it “impeded the use of the brake”.

Johnston, of Lilliesleaf, Selkirkshire, denies breaking health and safety laws. The trial continues.
