Scot sails through to Starstruck final with powerful Meatloaf performance 'he practised in care homes'

ITV's singing competition Starstruck returned to our television screens on Saturday night and a Scots contestant has sailed his way through to the final, with a powerful Meatloaf performance he 'performs in care homes'.

William, 31, a NHS Mental Health worker from Glasgow, took to the stage with three other singers as they belted out 'I Would Do Anything for Love'.

Before his performance he said: "I don't sing because I want to be a big diva, I sing because I want to uplift and make people happy.

"Gigging in care homes is my favourite place to gig because I love old people. They're very honest and tell you how it is.

"If I can sing in front of them, I can sing in front of anybody."

Team Meatloaf were picked by the judges Shania Twain, Jason Manford, Adam Lambert and Beverley Knight, as the best performers of the night, and all three men had to compete against each other for a place in the final and a chance of winning £50,000.

It was left down to the audience to pick who they thought was the best singer - and that was William.

After the results were announced host Olly Murs asked him how he left, and he replied: "Overwhelmed, completely overwhelmed. I sing in care homes. I don't sing on stages like this."

Charlotte's partner was left stunned (ITV)

Elsewhere, a contestant left her Scots partner wowed after he heard her sing live for the very first time.

Charlotte, 34, was part of Team Shania and joined three other girls on stage as they performed 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman! in front of Shania Twain herself, who is a judge on the programme.

The Children's Mental Health Practitioner was part of a girl group in 2014 - so is no stranger to a crowd.
