Scot needed stitches after being battered with 'metal weapon' in daylight street attack

A man was battered with a 'metal implement' in broad daylight in Greenock sparking a police investigation.

The victim was in Ann Street in the Inverclyde town at around 3.30pm on Monday, March 8 when another man, wearing dark clothing, assaulted him from behind.

He then made off towards nearby Regent Street.

The victim, aged 38, was assisted by two members of the public at the scene.

He was rushed to hospital where he received stitches to his head.

The man was later discharged by medics.

Police are scouring CCTV footage and making door-to-door enquiries to help trace the thug as part of their investigation.

Anyone with information on the attack is being urged to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Young of Greenock CID told the Greenock Telegraph: "We're carrying out door-to-door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage in the area.

"We're also keen for members of the public to pass any information on via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
