Scot Gemmill confirms Scotland are monitoring England wonderkid Archie Gray

Scot Gemmill insists Scotland are monitoring England superkid Archie Gray and revealed he's already put a word in with his former teammate's dad.

Scotland defender Liam Cooper this week said he's trying to persuade the 17-year-old youngster, who was linked with a £40 million move to Liverpool, to switch international allegiances and play for Scotland.

And Gemmill has already put a word in after meeting his former Nottingham Forest teammate Andy Gray, who won two caps for Scotland and is Archie's dad.

He said: "His father was an ex-teammate of mine at Nottingham Forest and bumped into him recently at a game.

"So I obviously spoke to him and he explained his son's situation to me.

"Of course he is a really good player. To my knowledge, he has come through the England pathway.

"His dad knows there is an interest from us.

"It's one of these situations and we have to respect whatever decision he makes."

Scotland international Cooper previously said of his attempts to lure Gray to the Hampden set-up:  “I’m still trying to tap him up, don’t worry about that! I’ve been a bit of a secret agent. He knows I’ll always be there.

“He’s such a young boy and his family are steeped in Scottish and Leeds history.

“There is definitely a bit of sentiment there but he’s flying at the minute with England. He’s captain of the Under-18s, which is a bit of a stinker for us.

“But I’ll keep nipping away and hopefully I can break him down.”
