Scot Garry Pearson nets a record four rally championship crowns

SCOTS rally ace Garry Pearson and co-driver Niall Burns have added another two titles to their haul – making them the first crew to be quadruple champions.

A battling third-place overall finish in their Skoda Fabia R5 at the Rallynuts Stages in mid-Wales last weekend secured the pair the Pirelli Welsh Rally Championship and BTRDA Rally Championship crowns.

Those titles are added to the crew winning the Motorsport UK National Rally Title and the Scottish Rally Championship.

Pearson, from Duns, Berwickshire, said: “What a season! I’d just like to thank everyone that’s made this possible – my sponsors, the team behind me, Niall my co-driver, my family and supporters.

“It’s been an incredible year and now we need to look to make the next step up. Hopefully, we’ve caught some eyes this year and can attract sponsors for 2022’s British Rally Championship.”

The Scot and his Donegal co-pilot had to overcome a series of mechanical problems during the rally, including power steering failure early on and then a rear tyre puncture.

But a stunning fightback on the final two stages saw them able to claim the third podium step and secure both the Welsh and BTRDA championships.
