Scores of teenagers detained in raid on Pattaya bar

PATTAYA: Fifty-nine young men and women were detained for questioning after police and administrative officials raided a bar in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district early on Sunday.

The raid on Paet Bid bar on Pattaya Sai Sam road took place at about 2.30am, and was conducted by Pattaya police and administrative officials led by Pichet Thamhon, an assistant chief of Bang Lamung district.

The officials acted after receiving complaints from local residents that the bar had stayed open beyond legal hours of operation and was serving youngsters under 20 years of age.

In the raid, the officials rounded up 59 people - 35 men and 24 women, all under 20 - and detained them for questioning.

The operator of the bar was charged with selling liquor without permission, allowing underage people to use the premises and illegally selling liquor to them.
