KANCHANABURI: A government patrol arrested 102 Myanmar nationals for illegal entry in Sai Yok district on Monday, police said.

The arrests followed reports of a large number of people crossing the border along natural pathways and hiding near Moo 8 village in tambon Si Mongkhon.

A combined police-military patrol was sent to the village.

About 8.40am, they found 61 men and 41 women, all Myanmar nationals, hiding in nearby forest.

Their temperatures were taken. None had a fever.

They told the arresting officers they were were from Bago, Dawei, Mawlumyine and Irriwaddy townships in Myanmar. They had each paid 17,000-20,000 baht to Myanmar brokers for jobs in Bangkok, Chon Buri and Samut Sakhon.

They were handed over to Sai Yok police for legal proceedings, pending repatriation.
