Scorchio Falkirk: Heatwave returns as temperatures expected to reach 27C

A ‘Mediterranean plume’ is descending on Scotland this week, with very warm temperatures expected from today.

The Met Office is anticipating mercury in Falkirk to climb to 24C today and 26C, possibly 27C tomorrow.

But, despite summer drawing to a conclusion within the coming weeks, experts are still urging sunbathers to take extra care when enjoying the sunshine.

The heat isn't expected to last more than two days though, with a thundery breakdown expected later in the week.

A Met Office spokesperson told Falkirk Live: "Cloud may be slow to clear over western hills over the next few days, but for most it will be a fine and dry with some long spells of sunshine developing.

"It's become very warm with highs of 24C on Tuesday.

"Wednesday will be fine and dry again fine with long sunny spells and becoming very warm, locally hot inland.

"We could see highs of 27C in a few spots.

"Bright or sunny intervals and scattered thundery showers are expected on Thursday and Friday.

"Saturday will be cooler with a few light showers possible."
